This exhibition, with an invitation for conversation and exchange about sound art and sonic pedagogy, shows work produced in the context of the ‘Kunst am Bau’ project Kleefeld Klangfeld, commission by the city of Bern, Switzerland, for the new replacement building of the primary school Bern Kleefeld.

For this ‘Kunst am Bau’ commission, rather than producing sculptural objects to be placed within the new build, David Mollin and Salomé Voegelin decided to work with the mobile and invisible dimension of sound to bring a different awareness to the site as architecture and as educational context. To do so they conceptualised a technological infrastructure and are curating a yearly programme of sonic interventions that enables the exploration and transformation of the site and its educational activities from sound.

For the first two years of the project, between 2022 and 2024, they commissioned Jan Schacher and Antye Greie-Ripatti (AGF), to work with the school environment and the children. This exhibition at ohrenhoch presents work generated from their respective residencies. It plays sound arts compositions made by the artists from their visits and shows their sketches of sound pedagogical workshopping and interventions with pupils and teachers from years 4 and 5, which invite listening, discussion and re-making, to explore and test how sound can feature as art and within an educational context.
